My Top Tips for Your Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial

Updated: 2 days ago

Booking your bridal hair and makeup trial is one of the most exciting steps in your wedding planning journey. It's more than just testing out your desired style and products, it's a chance for us to meet ahead of the big day, explore your dream look, and ensure you walk down the aisle feeling like the most confident version of you.

I like to call it your bridal preview, a relaxed setup where we bring your vision to life and have a lot of fun in the process. Think of it as a glam-filled catch-up with a your new beauty bestie! You can find out more about your WEDDING PREVIEW here.

Why Your Bridal Hair and makeup Trial is so Important.

I allow up to 3–4 hours for your bridal hair and makeup trial. This time is all about you, understanding your bridal style, personality, and exactly how you want to feel when you step into your wedding dress. We'll chat through the details of your dress, venue, vibe, and color palette, so everything connects beautifully.

A few days after the trial, I’ll send you a personalised style breakdown, complete with photos, notes, and a list of your chosen products and invite you to share your feedback. This helps us make any small tweaks well in advance so you feel 100% confident in the look on the wedding day.

What to Expect on Your Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial Day.

Make the most of your bridal preview. Here’s how to prep like a pro:

1. Arrive with a makeup-free face. Skip SPF or any makeup the morning of the makeup trial. This can affect how makeup applies and irritate the skin if we remove and cleanse. A lightweight moisturiser in the morning is best and I will tone and prep your skin again before any makeup application.

2. Prep your hair properly. Unless we're doing a blow-dry, wash your hair the night before. Shampoo twice, avoid conditioner on the scalp and use on the ends only. Avoid any leave in treatments or oils and blowdry your hair completely dry before going to bed to avoid frizz.

3. No heated tools, please! Avoid straighteners or curlers before your trial, as they can make it harder for styles to hold, especially for waves, curls, or volume-focused looks.

4. For a Makeup trial, bring your makeup favorites. Pack your go-to foundation and lipstick so I can get a feel for what you love in terms of tone, texture and coverage and make sure you feel totally yourself, just perfected.

5. Dress the part. A white or light-colored, low-cut top will help you visualize how the hair and makeup will look against your dress. High necks and bulky jumpers aren’t ideal, especially for an updo!

6. Take loads of photos (and videos!) Natural light, flash and indoor lighting shows off your look a bit differently. Snap away during and after the trial to see how it wears and photographs over time.

7. Let the makeup settle. Makeup always looks a bit more matte and defined right after application due to setting powder and setting spray. Give it a bit of time to melt into the skin and really come to life.

8. Keep your entourage small. You're welcome to bring one close friend or family member but too many voices can lead to confusion. It’s your look, and your opinion is what matters most.

9. Bridal party trials are welcome too! Mums, bridesmaids, and other VIPs can absolutely book their own trial. It's a great way to align everyone’s styles and make sure the whole party feel gorgeous and in sync.

10. Wedding Trials take place in my South London home studio. My pro setup, soft lighting, and relaxed space make it easy to focus on the fun stuff.

  1. When choosing your inspiration photos, look for styles similar to your own features and hair texture. For hair, find pictures that represent the style from both front and back and communicate what it is you like or dislike about the look. Communication is key!
